The Lion stamps of Persia are considered by many collectors as the most beautiful classic stamps, even collected by famous collectors like Count Ferrari.

The stamps have their own charm. It is relatively easy to follow the development of the stamps from the Barre Essays up to the last printings in 1879, especially due to the small sheet size and the fact that during the whole period the same clichés have been used.

In addition, the printings were carried our more or less careless and without proper supervision which led to a large number of used colours and papers. However, this even increased the interest in these stamps.

This website shows the development of the Lion Stamps, from the Barre Essays up to the last Lion stamps and uses the same chronology as the leading catalogues and handbooks.

By no means are these pages indented to replace printed handbooks, but merely a guide to these fascinating stamps.
