Baghdad West

Railway station in the west of the city of Baghdad, with lines up to Baiji in the northern part of Iraq and to Maqil in the south of Iraq.

For a long time i was wondering about this railway station but finally the mystery is solved. The hint came from a student of the Baghdad-Railway, Mr. Dr. Jgnaz Civelli of Switzerland who sent me below additional photo and information.

The photo shows Mr. Getrude Bell, a famous British Lady who travelled extensively thru the middle east in the early 1900..., the photo shows here and some other passengers in front of Baghdad Main Railway Station, cargo building, later called Baghdad-West during the year of 1913. The woodwork and brick structure of the building is identical with the photo of the railway station and the passengers apparently are standing at the ramp as seen above. The Railway stations shows the typical German architectural design, build by Meissner Pascha.
