A beautiful registered cover from Gyantse to Shigatse, franked with a 4 Trangka stamp and a bisected 2 Trangka stamp to complete the 5 Trangka registered postage rate. The stamp is bisected diagonally from bottom left to upper right corner and the bottom right part of the bisected stamp was used. On back of the cover (not illustrated) is the address plus the manuscript registration mark.
After the Occupation of Tibet
by the Army of the Peoples Republic of China in 1950 was the supply of
stamps interrupted and in certain Post Offices some values were of short
supply. In addition, the postage rates had been raised from 2 to 3 Trangka
for ordinary letters and from 4 to 5 Trangka for registered letters.
Therefore, from 1953/54 onwards, bisected 2 Trangka stamps have been used
in Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse and Dechem and from 1955/56 onwards, bisected
4 Trangka stamps have been used in Lhasa and Gyantse to complete the
postage rate of 3 respective 5 Trangka. The stamps have been bisected
horizontal, vertically and diagonally. |
