1924 Motor Mail Brief von Heliopolis/Kairo nach Baghdad

A rare cover, sent 1924 from Heliopolis/Cairo to Baghdad, transported with the Overland Mail Baghdad-Haifa, run by the Nairn Brothers. The cover was posted on 22. October 1924 and arrived in Baghdad on the 1. November 1924 (arrival postmark on the back of the cover). In addition, the cover bears the red routing instruction “Overland Mail” plus the red Motor Mail label, indicating the cover to be forwarded by the Overland Mail. The cover is franked with a pair of 15 Milliemes stamps, 15 Milliemes were for the ordinary postage plus additional 15 Milliemes the surcharge for the Overland (Motor Mail. The red Motor Mail labels were introduced by the Egyptian Post office on 27. March 1924 and only a handful such covers are known with these labels. Any incoming letters to Iraq, carried by the Overland Mail are very rare.

Ein seltener Brief aus dem Jahr 1924 von Heliopolis/Kairo nach Baghdad, transportiert mit der Overland Mail Bagdad – Haifa welche von den Nairn Brüdern betrieben wurde. Der Brief wurde am 22. Oktober 1924 in Heliopolis, einem Vorort von Kairo aufgeben und kam am 1. November 1924 in Baghdad an (Ankunftsstempel rückseitig). Die Frankatur von 30 Milliemes bestehend aus 2 Stück 15 Milliemes Marken setzt sich zusammen aus 15 Milliemes Porto für den Standardbrief von Ägypten nach Baghdad sowie 15 Milliemes Zuschlag für die Overland / Motor Mail. Zusätzlich trägt der Brief die rote, handschriftliche Leitweganweisung sowie dem roten Motor Mail Aufkleber. Die roten Motor Mail Aufkleber wurden am 27. März 1924 von der Ägyptischern Post eingeführt und nur eine Handvoll Briefe mit diesem Aufkleber sind bekannt. Jegliche Briefe in den Irak, transportiert mit der Overland Mail, sind sehr selten.
