About the book As the title implies this book is intended to motivate interests in the collecting and study of Nepalese postal history. There is little information about Nepal's postal history thus it is still a puzzle to many students of Nepalese philately in Nepal and abroad. Keeping these facts in view, this book attempts to elaborate profiles, postal history, postal routes and postal markings of all known Nepalese post offices from the earliest times until 1959. After the foundation and unification of Nepal from late 18th century regular state communications had star ted within different parts of the country. The spontaneous postal services started from 1875, which became more organized from 1878/79 with the opening of several post offices in different strategically located places. The development of the post offices and postal system is still going on within the country. In order to disseminate the holistic knowledge, the book is equipped with the Introduction of the Nepalese postal system and its several aspects at different times, some information about the country and calendars used are given. An Overview of Administrative Districts of Nepal at different stages answers many questions that were unanswered before. Overview of Nepalese Post Offices and the technical aspects of postmarks used by these post offices with scarcity guide are provided. Finally, the Post Offices & their Markings are concerned with the profiles of the post offices, their locations with geographic coordinates and elevations and brief postal history. All these resulted into concise and vibrant information, covering several aspects within a single volume on Nepalese postal history. |
