Forged and Bogus Handstamps
While i do not collect faked and bogus items, it is interesting to show them.
Too nice to be genuine??? I have seen this 1938 cover apparently from Bahrain to USA, franked with 1 Anna 9 Pies. The cover looks too nice to be good. The rate of 1 Anna 9 Pies does not relate to the correct postal rate, i addition, the cover appears as still being closed on reverse. Also the Postmark looks somehow suspicious! I therefore list it, until proven good as bogus.
The Overland Mail Handstamp, unfortunately as the cover is not in my hands, i can not measure it.
Any comments appreciated.
This December 1922 registered cover from Basrah to Alexandria/Egypt puzzles me.
The registered cover is sent from Basrah on 6 December 1922, on reverse Baghdad Transit postmark dated 8 December 1922 and arrival postmark Cairo 11 December 1922. On front a Basrah, framed, blue registration label and, what surprises me, a "Overland Mail Basrah-Haifa" Route Instruction handstamp. However, Overland Mail Service started only in late 1922.
So, either the Overland Mail handstamp was added to enhance the cover or the cover is a totals fabrication. Who can help to solve the mystery?
Note: The cover is not in my collection but offered frequently but unsuccessfully for sale at auction.
