The first Tibet stamps have been most likely issued in December 1912 in Lhasa. The Waterlow Essays were used a sample and 12 Clichés were carved into a wooden block. Due to that, every stamps in a sheets is slightly different from the other, thus they can be plated. The stamps have been printed on order from the Post offices and therefore every printing was slightly different in color. Therefore it is very difficult to classify the Tibet stamps. Below table shows how many color shades for the different nominations exist but should be used as guidance only. |
