As per the 1930 Post Office Guide, 55
Stations were authorized to accept railway post letters. Many of these
offices were at railway stations (halts) which were not provided with
normal postal facilities and are marked with “#” in the list
below.
In
a 1932 Post Office guide (in Arab Language) is mentioned:
After the 1932 change of currency
following stations and halts were permitted to accept telegrams and
train letters.
Unfortunately, this list did not appear
in the English version. Due to that I assume the names of the stations
are written by a different name caused by phonetic translation from Arab
into English. Also some stations which were listed in the earlier guide
appear to have omitted, some others were added.
Railway stations I know about, either due
to the mentioned Post Office Guides or railway maps are also listed in
the below table for reference.
Legend:
Station Name in Bold means, that
postmark is as original in my collection, either on a single stamp, on a
fragment or on a complete cover.
Station Name in Bold Italic
means, that postmark is only available as image provided by collector
friends or obtained thru dealer / auction offerings.
“#”
That location did not had
a normal Iraqi Post Office.
Missing images, either as original items
(I pay fair prices) or as clear colour images, are highly
appreciated.
No.
