While mail from Baghdad to Palestine by the Overland Mail stopped on 14 May 1948 with the announcement of the State of Israel which triggered riots in Arab Countries and a boycott of Israel by Arab countries. Mail however was still carried through the Syro-Iraqi desert. Currently the latest cover (shown below) sent westwards from Iraq by the Overland Mail to Egypt was sent on 20 October 1948.
